Point of Care - RAPID TESTS
|
We have a few Rapid Tests in our clinic for the following conditions.
Rapid Tests are tests that can be done conveniently in our clinic with the results taking a few minutes. These tests can be used to help guide our diagnosis and treatments. Influenza Rapid Test The Influenza Rapid Test is a nasal swab test. It is easy to perform and there is no pain involved. A cotton swab is put into the nostril to obtain a sample of the mucous. The test is then performed and the result takes a few minutes. This is recommended when Influenza is suspected and it will help to guide our treatment options. If you have symptoms of high fever, muscle aches, Flu-like symptoms of Cough, runny nose and sore throat, you should get the rapid test done in the clinic especially if your symptoms have developed within the last 24 to 48 hours. Or if you have had contact with anyone already diagnosed with Influenza and are developing symptoms, the test should also be done. If Positive, we may consider using an antiviral medicine called Tamiflu. Dengue Rapid Test The Dengue Rapid Test is a blood test that can be performed in our clinic. This test is done if we suspect or want to exclude Dengue as a cause of your fever. Blood will be drawn from you vein and the Dengue Rapid Test kit will be used. If the result is positive, we will send your blood on to the Lab to do a Full Blood Count as we will need to check the Platelet Count level as well as the White Blood Cell level. The symptoms of Dengue Fever include: Fever that lasts 2-7 days, Headache, Backache, Muscle aches, Abdominal Pain and Rash. The Dengue Rapid Test is a useful test that we can perform in the clinic. The result takes 15 minutes. |
