Influenza - The FLU
For information about Flu Vaccination, read HERE.
Influenza is also known as the FLU.
It is not the usual cough and cold that we experience. The symptoms are more pronounced and it is associated with High Fever and Muscle aches. Those of you who have had it before will understand that it is really no fun. If your symptoms occur within the first 24 to 48 hours (the first 1 to 2 days), we may consider doing an Influenza Rapid Test. A nose swab similar to the COVID19 ART is taken and the test is done on the spot. The result takes a few minutes. If the test is positive, we may consider using Anti Viral Medication for treatment. The Anti Viral Medication is Tamiflu and it it taken for 5 days. Seek help early if you have the symptoms of Influenza - High Fever, Muscle Aches, Runny nose, Sore throat and Cough. 31/10/2019
October 2019 for us was generally a quiet month for Influenza. We had 1 case which was a young child earlier int the month but then this past week, we've had 3 cases of Influenza A in adults. All cases were confirmed with the Influenza Rapid Test (refer to the pic below). They have been started on treatment. On 21/10/2019, MOH sent a letter to all doctors regarding the Flu Vaccination recommendations. There has been a substantial change in the H1N1 and H3N2 strains and because of this, they are recommending that even for those who have done the earlier Southern Hemisphere Vaccine from May to August 2019, for better protection against these strains, you should still do the current 2019/2020 Northern Hemisphere Flu Vaccine. |
