We are now using the Quadrivalent (aka " 4 in 1) Flu Vaccine. For those of you who are travelling or need to get your Flu shot, you can drop by to get it done. For Children from 6 months of age to below 9 years old, if they have never had a Flu vaccine before, they will require 2 doses done 1 month apart. Indications for Flu Vaccination are listed at the side. The cost of the Flu Vaccine is $45 for Private Paying Patients. For the Elderly above 65 years old, There is now significant subsidies from the Government for Pioneer, Merdeka/CHAS BLUE/CHAS ORANGE Card holders. Each group has a different subsidy tier. If you've had this before, you will understand what I mean when I say it is really no fun. You'll come down with the usual common cold symptoms but there is usually high fever and very pronounced body aches. It is also life threatening in certain groups of people and it is recommended especially for these people and for others who wish to protect themselves against the influenza virus. Side Effects and Adverse Reactions As with any vaccine, there is always a risk of side effects and adverse reactions. The common ones are 1. Injection site reaction, you can develop Soreness, Aching, Redness and Swelling at the injection site. This will usually last from 1 to a few days. 2. Headaches and Muscle aches 3. Fever 4. One serious but uncommon side effect of the Influenza Vaccine is Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). This is a condition whereby your own body's immune system attacks the nerves. The risk of this happening is about 1 or 2 per 1 million people vaccinated. |
